THANK YOU TO ALL YOU AMAZING PEOPLE WHO SIGNED UP FOR THIS STUDY. IT IS NOW CLOSED TO NEW PARTICIPANTS.

However, if you are interested please follow us on Facebook and if you would like to hear about the study results please email me at: anne@firsttimebirth.co.nz

Are you about to become a first time parent?

Having a baby? If only it was this easy!

Congratulations!

We would like your help to understand how prepared first time parents feel for labour and giving birth, and how this contributes towards their sense of birth satisfaction.

We would also like to understand how your preparation influences what you feel about being a family for the first 6 months after your baby is born. We are interested in both mothers’ and partners’ experiences.

Gifts for baby

If you participate, you will receive some small gifts for your baby, thanks to our very generous supporters.  You will also be entered into 4 draws for baby and toddler products at the end of the study. You can read more about this here.

What participants will be asked to do

You and your partner will complete 4 short questionnaires each (average time taken 15 minutes each) over approximately 10 months. After Questionnaire 1 you will be randomly assigned to a study group. You may be given a birth education programme to work through, a booklet to read, or you may not be asked to do anything extra between questionnaires. You will NOT be asked to change any of your plans. You can find out more on the What will the study involve page

What type of participants are we looking for?

We are looking for NZ-based, English speaking first time parents who are living together in a relationship and both intending to parent their child together. Marriage is not a requirement. Mothers need to be aged between 18 years and 42 years and less than 24 weeks pregnant at the time they join the study. Partners need to be 18 years and over. You can sign up for the study here.

Thank you to the following supporters.

Baby First; Baby Factory; Natures Sway Baby Hammocks and Swings; Treasures; OHbaby; Bounty; Everybody; Huggies; Daisy Baby; Snugglez; Little Kiwis

When are we looking for participants?

The study has now closed to new participants.

Can participants change their minds and withdraw from the study?
